Prior to the advent of service mesh, the predominant way Enterprise Java developers built cloud-native applications was with the aid of the Spring Framework’s “Spring Cloud” libraries. Istio presents an advancement in platform technology supporting cloud-native applications independent from the disparate microservices that development teams develop, maintain, and deploy.

Eitan will use the venerable Spring “Pet Clinic” sample application to demonstrate configuring various facets of a cloud-native app, including ingress, routing, security, resilience, and observability, all without resorting to using Spring Cloud libraries.
