Reflections on the First Tetrate AI Buildathon

A reflection on the first Tetrate AI Buildathon—the supportive community, the intentional 'Buildathon' approach, 16 demoable projects, and what comes next.

Reflections on the First Tetrate AI Buildathon

A Community I Didn’t Expect

Last week, I had the privilege of hosting the very first Tetrate AI Buildathon.

What I experienced was one of the most supportive, curious, and genuinely collaborative builder communities I’ve seen.

People showed up from all backgrounds:

  • Some were building AI features for the first time
  • Some were experienced and were exploring new ideas
  • All of them were willing to learn and help each other

It Was Never Really About Competition

From the beginning, this was intentional. We called it a Buildathon, not a hackathon.

Because the goal wasn’t speed. It wasn’t pressure. It wasn’t about who could “win” in a weekend. It was about building something real.

What happened exceeded every expectation we had as organizers.

Instead of competing, people:

  • Shared ideas openly
  • Helped debug each other’s projects
  • Gave thoughtful, constructive feedback
  • Encouraged others to keep going when things got hard

Builders showed up with generosity, curiosity, and a genuine desire to learn and help each other.

It felt less like a competition and more like a room full of people saying “Let’s build something and learn from each other together.

That’s what made this Buildathon special, and it’s exactly why we’ll continue to design our Buildathons this way.

What People Built

We had 16 projects that completed the buildathon with demoable solutions.

Spanning:

  • Developer tools
  • Healthcare
  • Finance
  • Business applications
  • Productivity

But there was a clear pattern:

People weren’t just building demos, they were solving real problems.

Winners & Awards

Overall Winner — Mvio

Mvio
Mvio

What stood out was real-world usefulness and strong expansion potential.

Mvio tackles a practical, relatable problem, managing the complexity of big life moves, with a functional application presented in a smooth, simple UX, where AI feels magical.

What impressed us was not only what’s there today, but the runway ahead. The foundation creates meaningful opportunities to layer in agentic capabilities, such as automating quote gathering, assisting with marketplace listings, and coordinating tasks on a user’s behalf. We believe Mvio can evolve into something powerful and can bring the power of AI to people’s lives.

What Happens Next

Info

This Buildathon is not the finish line.

We’re launching an Open Demo Series — where builders can:

  • Demo their projects
  • Get live feedback
  • Attract collaborators
  • Refine their AI features

Because great projects aren’t built in a weekend.

They are:

  • Built in public
  • Improved through feedback
  • Strengthened by community
