Tetrate Service Express is designed to help Amazon EKS users move to an Istio-powered service mesh on AWS
SAN FRANCISCO—Aug 3, 2023—Tetrate, the company solving application networking and security for enterprises, today announced the general availability (GA) of Tetrate Service Express (TSE). The new platform is designed for enterprises using Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) that want to use cloud-native and open source Istio and Envoy Proxy.
TSE is now available in AWS Marketplace, a digital catalog with thousands of software listings from independent software vendors that make it easy to find, test, buy and deploy software that runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS). TSE provides a fast, proven path for new users to get started with Istio-powered service mesh in minutes on Amazon EKS. The offering supports the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standard for zero trust architecture (ZTA) and leverages Amazon Route 53 for simplified deployment of applications in multiple AWS regions so users can achieve high availability and protection.
TSE is designed to make it easy to achieve security, cross-cluster resilience, and provides deep insights into application performance. TSE is based on open source software and optimized for AWS, pre-integrated with AWS services to get users up and running with a simplified user experience. With TSE, users will be running a service mesh in just two steps and a few minutes. TSE delivers pre-built service resilience and security, including cross-cluster and cross-region failover, with mTLS enabled by default without additional configuration. With TSE, it is easy to experiment with and operate in production with GitOps, metrics, events, logs and traces, all with service and support provided by Tetrate.
“We look forward to supporting Tetrate as they make Tetrate Service Express available at-scale for Amazon EKS users who are ready to consider an Istio-powered service mesh, which allows customers to help users more easily achieve cross-cluster resilience and mTLS by default, said Mona Chadha, Director of Infrastructure, Category Management and Partner Development at AWS. With TSE’s availability in AWS Marketplace, our customers can simplify larger Amazon EKS deployments, making powerful benefits like Zero Trust Architecture and multi-region high availability easier to set up and manage.”
Integrations between TSE currently include:
- Amazon Route 53 provides automatic provisioning of Domain Name System (DNS) records required by Ingress Gateway services
- AWS Load Balancer Controller and Network Load Balancer for cost-effective high availability
- Amazon Managed Grafana workspace dashboard exposes TSE service metrics
- AWS Private Certificate Authority (AWS Private CA) may be used to provide root CA and per-cluster intermediate CAs
TSE scales across the enterprise, as it’s easily migratable to Tetrate’s full-featured enterprise offering, Tetrate Service Bridge, for future cross-cloud, multi-tenancy and VM-based workload needs. Tetrate launched a tech preview of TSE in April.
“We are at the forefront of leveraging the cloud to bring new capabilities and solutions to support the needs of higher education,” said Mark Silis, vice president for information systems and technology (IS&T) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). “Solutions like Tetrate Service Express will dramatically accelerate how organizations can innovate and bring creative solutions to market.”
“We opened up limited access to TSE just three months ago and the response we received was, frankly, overwhelming,” said David Wang, head of product at Tetrate. “Specifically, we heard that TSE makes it easy for teams using Amazon EKS to evaluate Istio-based service mesh. We hear from users every day about challenges with high-availability across AWS regions, securing container-based services and controlling access across their developers and external users. We built TSE to show fast value and make critical infrastructure software used by the largest financial services firms and other highly regulated industries accessible for smaller agile teams getting started with service mesh on EKS.”
